Port Carlisle Summer newsletter

Wow what wonderful sunny weather we have been having little wet and windy last few days, although a little rain is always good for the garden.

There have been a few things going on recently; The Flower Festival is fast approaching; being held in St Michael’s Church Bowness from Friday 22nd June to Sunday 24th June. Port Carlisle will be represented in 5 of the windows. The Chapel, Inner Peace, The Hope and Anchor, The Tennis Club and The Recreation Ground. The Church should look spectacular and there will be refreshments available each day. Let’s hope the sun comes back to shine.

A request was made to the Recreation Ground Committee to apply to make the Hope and Anchor a community asset. This was agreed, and the application has been acknowledged by Allerdale council their decision will be made by 6th August. If there is action to follow this then a separate group will need to be set up, any interested people can contact Cathy Poxon in the first instance and there will be further information to follow.

With all this good weather followed by rain there are a lot of weeds growing in the recreation ground. The committee would like to ask for your help in weeding the boarders. There will be 2 evenings coming up both Wednesdays, the 4th and 11th July 6pm onwards. If we can encourage a few of you to join us on those dates, then we should only need to spend an hour each evening and get on top of the weeds. Please bring your own gloves and tools, no bags needed this year as we now have a compost store. With the very kind generosity of a couple of the residents of Port Carlisle we will be having the hedges trimmed, however this will not be until late August early September.

Date for your diary October 22nd we will be holding our now Annual Village Quiz. This year we will be serving curry, please feel free to bring your own booze, we will have a selection of soft drinks, tea and coffee available. Naturally there will also be a raffle.

  • Bowness Flower Festival June 22/23/24th June.
  • 4th and 11th July weeding and tidy up in the recreation ground 6-7pm.
  • Weather permitting Tennis Courts will be open from the start of May for Tennis and Croquet. Contact Cathy if Gates are locked (51939).

Please feel free to contact any member of the committee if there is anything you would like us to add. Also, how often you would like this information sent out?
